studio restoration – day 26

Well a few changes to report today. First you can now see the new chimney is almost done. It just needs one more coarse of bricks to bring it a little higher and a pot to finish it off.

You can also now see how the front window will look. Hopefully the new lintel will be in by tomorrow and the remaining stone work around it finished.

The new timber front door is also in the process of being fitted, we will see that in the next photos. Although it doesn’t look at at the moment, it is nearing completion. Hopefully the scaffold will come down tomorrow and  once it is, we will be able to get a better look at the changes.

studio restoration – day 23

It’s been a week since I have had the chance to photograph the progress of the restoration and I’m glad to say it is really starting to take shape.

The roof is now back on, The rear of the property has most of the pointing complete and most noticeable is the new rear doors and side sash windows. The chimney is also under construction and hopefully the scaffolding will be down by the end of the week. Once that is removed we will really be able to get a good look at the changes.

studio restoration – day 16

Day 16 sees the end of the stonework renovations for the back of the building. Can’t wait to get the doors on!

The window opening above the doors is going to be cement rendered, painted black with false a window painted in.

This is a legitimate way to show an opening was originally there. As the opening has no use it was decided to fill it.

The cheaper option would have been to fill it with matching stone work, but then you would never no it was ever there and we are not trying to disguise the original fabric of the building.

Next week sees the start of the front elevation, that’s the business end! it faces onto the main street. Can’t wait!

studio restoration – day 13

The huge stone lintel is now in pace over the rear opening, just a bit more stone work around it and it will be all done.

The roof has also now been insulated, re felted and battened on one side and is ready to be re tiled.
